Some of this post was buried in yesterday’s nearly 1,700-word biographical piece on the April 11th Google Doodle honoring the pioneering medicinal and industrial chemist, Dr. Percy Julian (1899–1975). Overnight, as I read more about the artist, Mike Dutton, and his treatment of other scientists and civil rights leaders, I became even more fascinated by the research and design process, enough to present an expanded piece on this aspect of the story.
