In a video by the International Table Tennis Federation, Hamato explains how three years after the accident he wanted to play again, holding the racket in his armpit but it didn’t work.

Hamato took on some of the best players in the world as an honorary guest at the ZEN-NOH 2014 World Team Table Tennis Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
