However, the largest proportion of song-skipping happens in the first five seconds – nearly 25% of all songs on Spotify are skipped in this time, according to data compiled by Paul Lamere.

Paul Lamere is director of developer platform at The Echo Nest, a company acquired by Spotify in March this year.

Narrowing down the data even further, teenagers are particularly likely to skip a track. Chris Tynan, a Spotify analyst, suggested the spike amongst those in their mid-forties can be blamed on people using their parents' accounts.
